Creativity

Art is not about what you see, but about what you make others see.

Edgar Degas

Peter J Hill started painting as a 19 year old stockman, while working on a property north of Broken Hill. Completely self taught, Peter continued to teach himself to paint as he worked his way around the outback as a station hand, shearer, fencing contractor, buffalo and crocodile hunter and grave digger.

Painting was always a hobby for Peter until the late 1970s when he decided to turn professional. He opened a gallery in Victoria at Olinda in the Dandenong Ranges. After successfully running it for a couple of years, he decided to sell and move to Canberra where he set up a studio/gallery at this home in Holt. Later, he would run a popular gallery in Sufer’s Paradise for several years and later, relocated to Mt Tamborine. Peter now sells his paintings privately, on request.

Throughout his career, Peter has held many successful solo exhibitions throughout Australia and he has participated in art shows where he has won numerous awards and prizes. His work came to the attention of the Australian Government and was deemed as appropriate gifts for international dignitaries visiting Australia. Peter’s artworks hang in corporate boardrooms, hotels, clubs and even in the National Archives in Canberra, Australia. His paintings are in private collections both in Australia and internationally.

Iconic

The Australian outback is in Peter’s blood and his paintings reflect this connection. His works are distinguished by a realism that reflects a sensitivity and respect for the rural countryside and the colours of Australia.

Timeless

Peter’s paintings stand without the need for explanation and will continue to be respected, revered and admired for generations to come.
